Discover the best record stores and listening bars in New York City

Wax Journal lists two places in New York City where the records come first: two record stores and one hi-fi café. Some are more than one of those at once. There is somewhere to dig in the afternoon and somewhere to sit down after. Every place was chosen by hand, and each page has its opening hours and address. If you know another door in New York City worth opening, send it to us.

Trading exclusively in second-hand vinyl since 1996, this East Village fixture was founded by dealer Isaac Kosman and is now run by Jay Delon. The cramped, fast-cycling racks run across jazz, funk, soul, hip hop, disco, house and techno, with rock, Latin and country folded in. Reasonably priced and geared toward serious digging, it has long drawn DJs and producers hunting samples and breaks.
